This golden toned square format photograph of a harbor seal was taken on the Old Fisherman's wharf in Monterey, CA. by Dave Gordon It was taken during a time when there weren't many people around and the seals seemed as curious about us as we were about them.

I have been photographing for a long time. I originally worked in the traditional black and white darkroom process but eventually migrated to the digital darkroom. Among my influences are photographers such as Edward and Brett Weston, Minor White, Elliott Erwitt, Michael Kenna, Marc Riboud, Wynn Bullock, Paul Caponigro and many others. Exploration and discovery of both the urban and natural landscapes has led me on my haphazard photographic journey. Sometimes I notice things in my nearby environment, other times in my travels to places like the desert southwest and the California coast. Lately I seem to be drawn to more abstract work incorporating shadows, silhouettes and empty space. I am also becoming interested in the effects of time...
