A black and white photograph of old pilings - apparently the remnants of an old bridge spanning the Broad Cove inlet near the Taunton River in Somerset, Massachusetts. The dark wooden pilings and foreground contrast nicely with the luminous atmosphere and distant features of the far shoreline. The Taunton River, located in southeastern Massachusetts, is 37 miles long and begins at the confluence of the Town and Matfield rivers in Bridgewater and ends in Mount Hope Bay in Fall River.
I have been photographing for a long time. I originally worked in the traditional black and white darkroom process but eventually migrated to the digital darkroom. Among my influences are photographers such as Edward and Brett Weston, Minor White, Elliott Erwitt, Michael Kenna, Marc Riboud, Wynn Bullock, Paul Caponigro and many others. Exploration and discovery of both the urban and natural landscapes has led me on my haphazard photographic journey. Sometimes I notice things in my nearby environment, other times in my travels to places like the desert southwest and the California coast. Lately I seem to be drawn to more abstract work incorporating shadows, silhouettes and empty space. I am also becoming interested in the effects of time...
